I love this picture for many reasons.. besides the obvious...
Michelle. Marilyn. Vogue. Mad Men. The 1960's.
Now only does Annie Leibovitz always take great pictures, not only is Marilyn Monroe a woman whom I look up to - for her strength and determination through all of the na-sayers, not only since Vogue is and has always been a dream of mine to work for - all of the fabulous legends that have walked those halls and graced those pages but for the elegance and time frame this picture takes us to. A time when women, all women, cared what they looked like and how they dressed, a time when new ideas were constantly being created, from Marilyn making her mark, to 1963 when Diana Vreeland joined Vogue and it all began. The Mad Men and Pan Am days, when dreams were created and then brought to life.. when people had manners, the days when artists were beautifying NYC, writers and musicians were crowding MacDougal and Bleeker when they didn't even realize they were famous yet.. a time when dreams were life..
To when a woman could wear a scarf around her head like Jackie O or Marilyn and no one would flinch... Michelle who my heart goes out to...
