People use alcohol for many reasons today and years, even centuries before. To celebrate, to mourn, to numb, to have fun... So to me, it is pretty interesting that when having alcohol in your possession became illegal, that it was then when the real stories and legends in time began. From the prohibition era alone, today we have TV shows and movies such as
Lawless, Boardwalk Empire and
The Great Gatsby. We also have brilliant writers whose fame thrived, F. Scott Fitzgerald and Hemingway to name two. Bootlegging became a very powerful and deadly career, even the most glamorous and glitzy era was born - The Jazz Age. My point, who knew that from banning a drink, if you will, that all this would arrive. Even today in NYC, when prohibition ended 80 years ago, speakeasies are still some of the most sought after places to frequent at night. A few of my favorites, La Esquina, 21 Club, The Backroom, The Blind Barber, Raines Law Room and Little Branch.
