In 1883, both the ultra chic Coco Chanel and social expatriate (living in the South of France) Sara Wiborg Murphy were born. Sara and her husband, Gerald, were besties with the Fitzgerald's and Hemingway's (Hem's first marriage) in the 20's. New fact discovered - Gerald Murphy' family owned the Mark Cross Company of leather goods AND he was also good friends with thee Cole Porter meeting at Yale their freshmen year. Lastly, did anyone know that Wiborg beach in East Hampton NY was named after Sara's family?? A 30 room mansion was built on 80 acres by her father in 1910, but destroyed in the 1938 hurricane.
