The plot of this film, starring Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett, actually began as a short story, author? F. Scott Fitzgerald --> The Curious Case Benjamin Button. According to Wikipedia, Fitzgerald's story was first published in a magazine in May 1922 and is often included in his book Tales of the Jazz Age.
The late Hollywood mogul Ray Stark held the rights to this story until his death in 2004, later purchased (from Stark's estate) by the film director David Fincher and used towards to film which came out in 2010.
