Opéra Garnier: Did you know...

The main and very famous opera house in Paris took 14 years to complete (1861-1875). Opening in 1875.

Palais Garnier - Opera National de Paris
8 rue Scribe, Place de l'Opera, 75009 Paris

Did you know that the Opéra sells honey from their own bee hive that is located.. on their roof?! Haha, yes this is true and I saw it with my own eyes from the Galleries Lafayette rooftop thanks to Rick Steves for this tip. The fun fact is how it all started... we all know the Phantom of the Opéra and the famous lake that sits under the Opéra(which is also real), well one day an employee of the Opéra decided to put his fish in this lake, when the costume designer noticed he remember his own issue with his beehive. He was unable to keep his beehive in his country house any longer and had no idea where to put them, until now. Next, he installed the hives on top of the roof, and to this day his bees share their new home with the angels that sit up top as well.
