Hidden hidden gem in the West Village

10 Grove Street
New York, NY 10014

On Grove Street you might come across these gorgeous cottage looking houses hidden off the street only to be seen if you are looking for them! Welcome to Grove Court. Grove Court, located on Grove Street, was built in 1854 by Samuel Cocks. Samuel owned a grocery store on 18 Grove Street(Cocks and Bowron), he needed to find housing for his workers hoping to improve business so he built these back houses for them off the street behind other townhouses since it was a very undesirable area. Oddly enough back then these houses were called the "Mixed Ale Alley" by the locals, however of course today these are very exclusive and hard to come by since the hid-away gives such privacy and mystery. These pictures will help you locate the back houses when you go on your hunt. In the first picture try and find the break between the two red townhouses for where the hidden gems reside...
